6 Tiny Morning Rituals that Make My Mornings Magical
Share
Before I had morning rituals, I would press snooze until about 10 minutes before I needed to leave. I would roll out of bed, rush around to look okay enough, and hope I get to work on time.
Let me tell you, as nice as that snooze button seems in the moment, snoozing and rushing will never beat the peace that comes with a morning ritual.
If your morning routine is rolling out of bed and rushing out the door, don't stress yourself about jumping into a full-blown morning ritual. Tiny steps accumulated over time transform into great leaps for your personal wellbeing.
Here are some of the tiny rituals I implemented that have made my mornings magical.
Wake up with intention
How you start your day will set the tone for the rest of the day. Do you want the rest of your day to have a doom-scrolling tone? Or do you want the tone to be self-love and goal-oriented? Take a moment to stretch in bed, take some deep breaths, and choose a word or intention for the day.
Create a Cozy Sensory Moment
Something about fresh air brings good energy into your home and into your heart. As part of my morning routine, I like to open a few windows to let the house air out. When the weather is particularly nice, I like to take my morning rituals outside on my back porch. For you, a sensory moment may look like lighting a candle or cuddling under a soft throw blanket. Make a cup of coffee slowly and thoughtfully.
Journaling (even just 5 minutes)
I like to take a few moments to gather my thoughts. What am I nervous about today? Do I need to run any errands after work? What type of exercise do I want to do this afternoon? What am I looking forward to? Sometimes I pick an affirmation and write it five times. Taking a few moments to gather your thoughts on paper will give your mind space to conquer the day. Journaling has been a part of my morning ritual since the beginning.
Get Ready Like You're the Main Character
Getting ready doesn't have to be for dreading the day. It is an opportunity to enjoy the moment. Play music. Wear a long duster as you strut around the house. This is a moment in your day. Every moment is an opportunity for intention and joy.
A Moment of Stillness
Find a meditation on YouTube, read an excerpt from a book, savor your coffee. It doesn't have to take a long time. Mornings are known for being rushed. Break the curse of the rush and take a moment for yourself in stillness.
A Moment of Movement
On the flipside, find a moment for movement! This can be anywhere from your hour-and-a-half powerlifting workout to a quick sun salutation. Movement is a great supporter of mental and physical health. Adding a little bit of movement to your morning rituals sets the tone for your day. Especially if you are wanting to include more activity in your daily life!
Create your own morning rituals
These are some of the things I do each day to start my day in a positive direction. None of these mentioned above need to take very long. Remember, these are tiny rituals. You can make them big if you want. But sometimes starting out small is a huge step.
